If I Was Orange...

For this project, I wanted to ask a simple question: “What if I was orange?” Of course, what this really means is, what if I could change myself? What if I could choose to fit in, be what is expected of me, be the person I want to be? To answer this, I decided to go right back to the little boy who wanted his face to be painted as a pink tiger. Would I ask him to change? Would I put him down, tell him his feelings, his existence, is wrong? Could I look him in the eyes and hate him the way it is so easy to hate myself, now? My video-piece, “Affirmations,” navigates these complicated emotions which arise on the journey to self-acceptance.
